Have you ever thought about it? Why are we involved in markets? Is it because they are our friends? Or because they are fun?

No. We are involved in markets to maintain our purchasing power as we get older and help to cover our expenses as we live through retirement. But when you observe talking heads on TV and social media posts about investing, too often markets are presented as entertainment or a dopamine injection. It’s a sad mirror of our microwave and fame-centered culture.

Don’t fall for it. Don’t be short-sighted. Turn off the TV. Close the browser window. Get off social media. Markets are, in fact, a wonderful weighing machine of supply and demand we can participate in as a means to protect our hard-earned dollars. That’s it. Nothing more. Nothing less.

And while markets are a land of opportunity, being involved in them carries risk. Think about it. If the average return of the S&P 500 per year is approximately +8% and the average drawdown per year is approximately -10%, it means you will likely experience a negative market event to have a positive outcome on the other side. This makes investing hard as our human emotions of fear and greed get in the way of sound judgment.

This is why, at Client First, we use the Adaptiv Investment Management System for our clients. Our system is based on price, the most important factor involved in markets. Investment decisions are not based on what is seen on TV, read online, or the emotions we experience. Rather, the Adaptiv System™ is based on price, which helps us identify trends and relative strength across 35,000 different investable assets. We don’t need to predict. We need to plan. We are privileged to help our clients navigate ever-changing markets regardless of the popular narrative du jour.

Watch as the Client First team takes some time to answer the following important questions using the Adaptiv™ process:

  • Has the market gone too far, too fast?
  • What happened to the recession? What happened to inflation?
  • Will the Presidential Election derail this market?
  • How do we manage risk in this volatile market?
  • What important sectors and asset classes should we be paying attention to?
